Dated July 25, 1922, this glass negative portrays Major General Harry L. Rogers, though the title comes from data the National Photo Company recorded on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified. The Washington, D.C., studio produced a large body of portraits and views of officials, officers, and public events in the 1910s and 1920s. The negatives later entered the Library of Congress, and this one arrived as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Streaks and other blemishes may reflect the natural deterioration of the original coatings, which is worth keeping in mind when judging the image's fine detail.
