Here Calvin Coolidge appears at a co-operative marketing conference, a gathering that brought together farm organizers and business leaders to discuss how producers could sell their goods collectively. The print comes from the National Photo Company Collection, a Washington studio that documented officials and public events during the 1910s and 1920s. Coolidge, president from 1923 to 1929, generally favored business-friendly policy, and the 1922 Capper-Volstead Act, which gave farm co-operatives limited protection from antitrust prosecution, reflected the wider interest in such organizations during his administration. The record dates the picture only approximately to 1925.
