Drawn in graphite, this front elevation shows a monument laid out as a flat, head-on view, so its proportions and ornament can be read without perspective. It comes from the papers of Charles Bulfinch, the Boston architect who shaped much of the city's public building after the Revolution and later worked on the U.S. Capitol. Its date is an estimate, based on the drawing's design style and the period of Bulfinch's last known work, which places it roughly in the 1810s and 1820s. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology deposited the material in 1935.
