This sheet is a cross-section that shows tiered seating rising within a gallery carried on Corinthian columns, with the capital drawn in close detail. An earlier cataloging note linked it to the Senate chamber gallery, a room that Charles Bulfinch helped shape during the rebuilding of the national Capitol after the 1814 burning. As a Boston architect who later served as Architect of the Capitol, Bulfinch produced drawings like this to settle how public halls would be arranged for seating and sightlines. The ink, wash and graphite work shows the balance he kept between structure and ornament.
