Florence Kling Harding, wife of President Warren G. Harding, is the subject of this 1921 glass negative, the year her husband took office. Before the family moved to Washington, she had helped run the Marion Star, the Ohio newspaper her husband edited. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded officials and public figures in the early twentieth century, made the negative, though the title comes from unverified studio data. Streaks and blemishes from the deterioration of the original coatings are visible on the glass.
