The two sitters are named only in the title, "Mrs. Minor, Mrs. Goday," and that caption came from the National Photo Company's own notes on the negative sleeve, not from independent verification. The National Photo Company worked in Washington, D.C., from the 1910s into the 1930s, producing portraits, street scenes, and news pictures for newspapers and clients, and its glass negatives were later donated to the Library of Congress. Dating from about 1921 places the plate in the company's busy middle years. The faint streaks and blemishes visible on the glass come from the natural breakdown of its original coating, so they are part of the negative's physical history.
