The title places President Warren G. Harding at Walter Reed in Washington, D.C., in March 1921, only a few weeks after his inauguration. The National Photo Company, which worked in the capital from the 1910s into the 1930s, produced news and portrait photographs for newspapers and magazines, and glass negatives like this one were the standard format of the day. The title and date come from notes the company made on the negative sleeves and have not been independently verified, so the exact occasion should be treated as provisional. The streaks and blotches visible on the plate are signs of the original coating deteriorating over the decades.
