A streetcar wreck near Walter Reed, the Army hospital on Georgia Avenue in northwest Washington, is the subject of this glass negative, dated October 13, 1919. The hospital drew steady traffic by streetcar, so a crash on that stretch would have been a local event. The negative came from the National Photo Company, a Washington commercial studio that recorded the city's streets, accidents and public life in the years after 1907. Streaks and other blemishes on the glass reflect deterioration of the original coating, so some detail is lost.
