This halftone reproduces a photograph of an architectural model showing a proposed enlargement of the White House's south front. It was printed as plate 14 in *Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the National Capital*, issued as House Document 552 during the 56th Congress, which marked a century since the federal government moved to Washington. The proposal reflects ongoing debate over whether the executive mansion needed more room for offices and official functions, a question that led to major changes in the years that followed. Some details here come from an older caption card and have not been independently verified.
