Model sailboats are the detail that sets this card apart, with children gathered at the water's edge while their toy yachts drift across it. Model yachts were often sailed on the Conservatory Water, a formal basin near Fifth Avenue, which was a popular Saturday pastime by 1900. Central Park, laid out from 1858 under Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, was designed as a refuge for city families, and scenes like this one show how they used it. The stereograph was published in St. Paul, Minnesota, by T.W. Ingersoll, so it was sold far from the city it shows.
