Steamboats crowd the riverfront in this view of the levee at Cincinnati, Ohio, where goods and passengers moved along the Ohio River. The picture dates to about 1907 and was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for its large catalog of American scenes. Cincinnati was one of the busiest river ports of its day, and levees like this one served as the working edge of the city, where cargo was loaded and unloaded. The 8 by 10 inch glass negative holds fine detail of the boats and waterfront.
