Looking upriver from the heights of Mount Adams gives this view its particular vantage, with the Ohio stretching away between the hills of Cincinnati's eastern edge. Mount Adams, a steep rise above the riverfront, was a favored spot for photographers wanting a broad panorama of the city and its waterway. This glass negative comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that between roughly 1890 and 1910 documented American towns, rivers and landscapes, often for postcards and travel publications. Its large 8 by 10 inch format captured fine detail in the river valley and the hillside houses.
