Eden Park, the hilltop green space overlooking the Ohio River in Cincinnati, is the setting for this view of its lake, a body of water that was one of the park's chief attractions in the early twentieth century. The Detroit Publishing Company, which produced large numbers of photographs and hand-colored prints of American places between about 1890 and 1930, made this 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate negative around 1900 to 1910. Such negatives were valued for their fine detail, and the company used them to supply postcards, booklets and travel views that promoted cities and scenic spots to a growing tourist public.
