The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Cincinnati is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati, and this view records its architecture in the early twentieth century. The photograph was made around 1907 by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for its large catalog of American city and landscape views, many later hand-colored or printed in color. It survives as an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative, a format widely used by commercial photographers of the period for its sharp detail. Views like this one show how Cincinnati's religious buildings stood in the city's streetscape before the automobile reshaped those neighborhoods.
