The Hotel Brunswick stood on Boylston Street in Boston's Back Bay, near Copley Square, and this 8 x 10 inch glass negative records it as a fashionable hotel of the period. The image was made around 1906 by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that photographed American cities, resorts and landmarks for sale to travelers and postcard publishers. Its negative passed through the State Historical Society of Colorado before reaching the Library of Congress in 1949. Such views help show how Back Bay's street life and hotel architecture looked in the early twentieth century.
