School Street, which runs from Washington Street to Tremont Street near the old center of Boston, appears here alongside the Parker House, the hotel named in the catalog title for this view. The Parker House opened in 1855 at the corner of School and Tremont Streets and became a well-known gathering place for writers and politicians. It is also credited with the Boston cream pie. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sent photographers across the country to document American cities and towns in the early 1900s, made this pair of close glass negatives around 1906, a busy downtown street of that period.
