Old Colony Trust Company's main office on Court Street placed this bank in the heart of downtown Boston, where banking houses clustered near the city's older commercial streets. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative around the early 1910s, was known for large-format views of American cities and landmarks, many later reproduced as color prints. Its catalog number and the date marked with a question mark suggest the exact year was not firmly recorded. Banks of this period often projected stone and columned facades to signal stability, and a street-level view like this one shows how such buildings shaped the feel of the block.
