The rail line joining Seoul with Fusan, the southern port now called Busan, was built largely under Japanese supervision during the years of Japan's control over Korea. Its through route was completed in 1905, and it linked the peninsula's capital with its main southern gateway. The Japanese flags noted on the caption card point to an official, state-style celebration rather than a local gathering. The record marks its date of December 12, 1919, as unverified, so viewers should treat that date as a cataloger's note and check it against the line's known opening.
