The record names the sitter as Albert W. Jeffers of Nebraska, though that identification comes from unverified notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve. The glass plate dates from about 1918 to 1921 and is one of a batch of small-format negatives the firm made, which were later given to the Library of Congress by Herbert A. French in 1947. The surviving glass shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coating, so the image is softer than a print from a fresh negative would be.
