This glass negative records a person identified only as Albert W. Jeffers of Nebraska, and the title comes from data the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, which the Library of Congress has not independently verified. The plate was probably made between 1918 and 1921, based on other negatives in the same range. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio based in Washington, D.C., produced large numbers of images of people, places, and events across the United States during these years. Glass plates like this one were the standard medium of the period, and the streaks and blemishes visible on this example come from the gradual breakdown of the original coating over time.
