A pair of men, identified in the title as Albert Thorn and Hale Holden, are the subject of this glass negative, dated September 13, 1923. The title comes from data written by the National Photo Company, so the names and the occasion are not independently confirmed. The company operated in Washington, D.C., and produced a large body of portraits and documentary views in the 1910s and 1920s, which were later donated to the Library of Congress. Glass plates like this one were the standard medium of the period, and the streaks and blemishes visible on the surface are typical of deterioration in the original emulsion coatings.
