Canada Street is the main thoroughfare of the village of Lake George, and its name points to the old route north. The lake lay on the corridor between New York and Canada, a path used by armies during the French and Indian War and the Revolution. By about 1904, when this glass negative was made, the village had grown into a summer resort, and the Detroit Publishing Company was photographing towns like it as travel views. The street scene offers a glimpse of everyday life in a resort community at the turn of the century.
