The main street of the village of Lake George, in the Adirondack foothills of eastern New York, is the subject here, and the shopfronts and storefronts along it show a town built around summer visitors. By the years between 1900 and 1915, the lake drew steamboat and railroad travelers who came to stay at its hotels and boarding houses, so the village's commercial buildings served that seasonal trade. The picture is a glass negative from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for travel views of American towns and scenery. Its copy came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
