Rowboats and small pleasure craft on the water are the subject of this 8 by 10 inch glass negative of Lake George in New York's Adirondack region. The Detroit Publishing Company, which photographed scenic and resort destinations across the United States, made the image sometime between 1890 and 1910. Lake George drew summer visitors to its hotels, steamboat landings and islands, so boating was a natural part of a resort holiday there. Large glass plates like this one recorded fine detail in the water and along the shore, which is worth noticing if you look closely at the boats and the people in them.
