Cathedral Plaza, with City Hall facing the cathedral across the square, shows the old colonial core of Panama City, the district now known as Casco Viejo. The record gives no date for the photograph, so the gallery's link to Theodore Roosevelt's presidency rests on the period rather than on anything in the view itself. Roosevelt's administration backed Panama's separation from Colombia in 1903 and launched American work on the Panama Canal, changes that transformed the city around these older buildings.
