Taken from Charlestown, this wide view looks across the Charles River toward Boston, with bridges and riverside industrial works filling the scene. It survives as one of two glass negatives that once formed part of a three-part panorama, so the sweep of the river reads as a continuous landscape rather than a single frame. The Detroit Publishing Company, which produced and sold views of American cities and landscapes in the early 1900s, aimed such images at a travel-minded public, and this panorama preserves the working waterfront that lined the river at the time.
