Few drawings on this board are as specific as this one: a first-scheme exterior design for a house commissioned by Mrs. Charles P. Lowes in Eagle Rock, then a hillside community northeast of downtown Los Angeles and later absorbed into the city. Drawn in graphite and color ink on tracing paper, the sheet records an early stage of the design, when the architect's ideas were still being tested before final working drawings. The 1920s were a boom period for residential building across Southern California, and the Lowes house belongs to that wave of commissions. The drawing comes from the Donald D. Walker collection at the Library of Congress, and its title was devised by Library staff.
