Few houses of the postwar years were drawn as carefully as this living room study for Case Study House No. 9, the steel-and-glass residence Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen designed for John Entenza, editor of Arts & Architecture, on a bluff in Pacific Palisades. Sketched in ochre pencil on tracing paper around 1948, the drawing shows the interior as a perspective projection, with the open plan and sweeping glazing that made the Case Study program famous. The house was built for the magazine's experiment in affordable modern design, and this sheet records how its living space was imagined before construction.
