Perched on the rocky edge of the Pinnacle, a gazebo overlooks the landscape in this view of Ethan Allen Park in Burlington, Vermont. The park takes its name from Ethan Allen, the Revolutionary War leader of the Green Mountain Boys, who is also remembered for his role in the region's early history. The glass dry plate negative dates from between 1900 and 1920 and was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for documenting American towns, parks and scenic spots for travel promotion. Its record notes the cliffs and gazebo as the main subjects, making it a useful view of how Vermont's city parks were presented to visitors in the early twentieth century.
