The record gives little detail about the Lenox Apartments itself, but this 8 by 10 inch glass negative, catalogued by the Detroit Publishing Company as number 043234, documents the building as it appeared in the early 1900s. The company, based in Detroit, produced large-format views of American cities and landmarks for sale as prints. Detroit's population grew by more than half during the 1900s, and the city expanded its supply of multi-family housing to shelter newcomers and workers. The Library of Congress received the negative as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
