Mrs. C. H. Connelly is the only name attached to this portrait, recorded by the National Photo Company on the negative or its sleeve and not independently verified. The glass negative dates to between 1918 and 1920, when the Washington, D.C., firm was busy recording local people and events. Streaks and blemishes across the plate come from natural deterioration of the original coatings, which is worth keeping in mind when judging the tones. Even so, the fine detail of the glass support preserves a useful record of portrait work from the years just after World War I.
