A fire at the United States Capitol is the subject of this glass negative, though the record does not say which blaze it shows or when it broke out. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that documented Washington, D.C., in the early twentieth century, made the negative, which is dated somewhere between 1912 and 1930. The title came from notes on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified. Visitors should also notice the streaks and blemishes on the glass, which come from the natural deterioration of the original coating over time.
