Few details survive for this group portrait, which the record identifies only as "Miss McDougal, Oklahoma group." That title comes from unverified data the National Photo Company noted on the negative or its sleeve, so the names and occasion remain uncertain. The plate dates to about 1919 or 1920, when the Washington, D.C., firm was producing large numbers of portraits and views for clients across the country. Being glass, the negative shows streaks and blemishes from the natural breakdown of its original coating, a common sign of how these fragile plates age. Herbert A. French gave it to the Library of Congress in 1947.
