The model shown here is Frank Lloyd Wright's proposed design for the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, reproduced as a halftone from a photograph. It appeared in 1917 in a Japanese volume titled *Some Designs and Executed Buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright*, published by Kenchiku Gahōsha. Wright's hotel was commissioned during the First World War, and its low, ornamented plan included a floating foundation meant to withstand earthquakes on Tokyo's soft ground. The building survived the 1923 Kanto earthquake, though it was demolished in 1968.
