This color lithograph, printed in Cleveland around 1945, takes the name Tokyo Rose as its subject. American servicemen used that name for the women who read English-language programs on Japanese radio during the Pacific war, and it became shorthand for enemy propaganda. Iva Toguri, a Los Angeles-born Japanese American who was in Japan when the war began, was later convicted of treason in 1949 for her part in those broadcasts. The poster shows how the name had spread into popular imagery, often well beyond the facts.
