Its title, "China Fights On," and its sponsor, United China Relief, a member agency of the National War Fund, tie this lithograph to American fundraising during the Second World War. China had been fighting Japan since 1937, and United China Relief was founded in 1941 to send money and supplies to Chinese war relief. The poster's subjects point to Chinese fighter aircraft and to the economic strain of the war, themes that were meant to show American donors how their contributions could support a distant ally. The record dates it to about 1943, when the National War Fund pooled appeals from many wartime charities.
