Few images in this gallery show a classroom as directly as this stereograph, which captures Chinese schoolchildren and their teacher at a mission school run by the American Board of Missions in Peking. Keystone View Company, a stereograph publisher based in Meadville, Pennsylvania, issued the card around 1926, when the company sold three-dimensional views of world locations to American households and schools. Views like this one were meant to bring distant places into the parlor and classroom, and they offer a window onto foreign mission education in northern China during the 1920s.
