The slogan on this 1917 recruiting poster reworks the old English blessing "God speed the plough" and adds a line that puts a woman in charge of the machine. It was aimed at women who might join the Women's Land Army, a wartime effort to bring women into farm work as men went to the front and Britain's food supplies came under strain. The notice at the foot tells readers to apply for enrolment forms at a post office or employment exchange, a reminder that these posters were meant to prompt an immediate response. Its title and subject headings also show how the campaign was later catalogued as part of the wider story of women's employment during the war.
