Tehuantepec, the town named in the title, lies in the narrow Isthmus of Tehuantepec in southern Mexico, and this lithograph ties the place to local dress and fruit. The color poster was printed at the Talleres Gráficos de la Nación in Mexico City for the government's Dirección General de Turismo, which dates it to between 1930 and 1950. Its subject headings point to Mexican clothing and to fruit from Veracruz-Llave, so the design pairs regional costume with produce from the country's tropical lowlands. Isthmus women's traditional dress, with its embroidered blouses and full skirts, was a favorite image in Mexican tourism and art of the period.
