Drawn from a high vantage on the north side of the city, this chromolithograph shows Boston as a harbor town, with the waterfront and shipping spread in color across the sheet. J. Bachmann drew and lithographed the view, and L. Prang & Co., the Boston firm that did much to popularize color printing in America, published it. Bird's-eye prospects like this were prized as both maps and keepsakes, and this one records a city expanding along its wharves and warehouses in the late 1870s.
