This poster takes its subject from Asturias, where coal miners rose in October 1934 to protest the entry of the right-leaning CEDA into the Spanish government. The uprising was crushed, and the region remained a symbol for the Republican left. Printed around 1937 by the Socorro Rojo (Red Aid), the relief organization, it asks for help for the families of men fighting on the northern front, where the Republic was losing ground. The date range in its title, October 1934 through 1937, treats the Asturian struggle as one continuing cause. Posters like this were a main tool for raising money and support during the Civil War.
