The title's call to "Valencianos" and its reference to "the heroes of the north" point to the families who fled Asturias as the Nationalist advance reached the Cantabrian coast in 1937. The Valencia committee of International Red Aid printed this color lithograph to ask residents to shelter and support those evacuees, a reminder that the war displaced civilians far from the front. Red Aid was a relief organization tied to the international left, and its posters of the period often paired appeals for solidarity with bold figurative imagery. The catalog also lists arms as a subject, so the gestures of the figures are worth a close look.
