The Spanish headline, which translates as "The ruins of Spain's art are one more charge against fascism," sets the tone of this Republican-era poster. It presents the destruction of the country's buildings and monuments as evidence in a political accusation rather than as a simple record of loss. Attributed to Madrid and dated between 1936 and 1939, it appeared during the Spanish Civil War, when bombardment and fighting damaged churches, palaces and cultural sites across the country. Republican supporters used images like this to rally opinion at home and abroad, so the poster is best read as propaganda in which the fate of cultural heritage and the political charge are inseparable.
