The title on this sheet music cover refers to the 69th Regiment of the New York militia, whose largely Irish-American ranks later earned the nickname "the Fighting 69th" in the Civil War. The regiment fought with the Irish Brigade at Bull Run, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. The cover was copyrighted by Wm. A. Pond and lithographed by R. Teller of Church Street in New York. Its caption tracings point to the harbor and the city's militia, which shows how closely volunteer regiments were tied to local pride and public celebration in the years after the war.
