From the Swan Hotel, this view looks along the quay in Lucerne toward the Schweizerhof and National hotels and the Cathedral's spire. By the 1890s Lucerne was a regular stop for travelers touring central Switzerland, and its lakeside hotels catered to them in growing numbers. The print is a photochrom, a color process developed in Zürich that printed several lithographic stones, each prepared from a photograph, in succession. The Detroit Publishing Company issued it in America in its 1905 catalog of Swiss views.
