Perched on a terrace above the eastern shore of Lake Lucerne, Seelisberg drew travelers for its wide lake views, and the Hotel Sonnenberg was one of the places that housed them. This print is a photochrom, a color process developed in Switzerland in the 1880s, and it appears in the Detroit Publishing Company's 1905 catalog of Swiss views. The company held American rights to the process and sold such images to buyers who wanted souvenirs of European travel. Hotels like this one show how the lake country was built up for tourists around 1900.
