The title on this glass negative, "Roosevelt at St. Louis," comes from caption cards that the Bain News Service wrote, and the record does not give a date, so the exact occasion is unconfirmed. St. Louis hosted the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in 1904, and Theodore Roosevelt visited the city during his presidency, which makes the fair a likely setting. George Grantham Bain's agency sold photographs of national figures and events to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives are a major source for images of that era.
