The title gives this glass negative its particular detail: a "Secty. Houston," dated December 3, 1920. The record does not say which Houston is shown, and the title comes from unverified data on the negative sleeve. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio, made many portraits and event pictures of officials during these years. The plate was a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947, and its streaks and blemishes are typical of deterioration in early glass negative coatings.
