Three women named in the title, Mrs. Houston, Mrs. Robbins, and Mrs. Grayson, set this view of a Houston market apart from the city's other street scenes. It is a glass negative from the National Photo Company Collection, a Washington, D.C., firm that sent photographers across the United States in the early twentieth century to record towns and cities for commercial use. The names come from unverified notes on the negative sleeve, and the date of about 1919 or 1920 is inferred from related negatives, so both should be read with some caution. The glass also shows streaks and blemishes from deterioration of its coating.
