Titled simply *A Bit of Shore*, this view takes in a stretch of waterfront at Kattskill Bay on Lake George in New York. The Detroit Publishing Company made the 8 by 10 inch glass negative around 1907, when Lake George was a well-known summer destination for hotel guests and steamboat travelers. The company recorded scenic places across the country and sold its views to tourists and publishers, so pictures like this one offered a way to see the lake's shoreline without making the trip. The negative reached the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
